Confecção do circuito para acesso via Console
Modem Broadxent / Creative

Nosso colega da PROPAPI Informática Ltda. Erechim - RS.

Pcb layout

Max232 pins

Manual para acesso pela console. Manual para acesso pela console.

Tiny pcb approx 0.55 x 0.61 inches! Ideal for those projects that require an affordable RS232 I/O port. The kit Includes an SOIC Max232, four 1uf SMD tantalum capacitors, pcb and a DB9F connector. It accepts any TTL RS232 Rx/Tx signals. Requires 5volts DC. This pcb was originally designed for a custom DB9 shell which was a couple of mm larger than most DB9 hoods found in electronic stores. One could most probably make it fit in a standard hood by shaving the corners and edges.

5v version uses an IC232 and 1uf caps and the 3v version uses an IC3232 and 0.1uf caps.

Shown mounted in a DB9 hood

Note: AD232DBH orders. If you would like the 3v version please indicate that when ordering (only available with item #: AD232DBH .)

Are you plugged directly into one of the 8120 ports? Pressing the reset button, will only reset the inital user and password. Maybe you want to look at the manual for some ideas?

My screwed up my lan ip settings on my 8120 and it became impossible to access via. However, there *is* a console port.

Just remove the rubber rectangular plug next to the power switch to reveal a 4 pin connector. Order a A232DBH (Max232) *3.3 volt version!!!* (see end of message for ordering details)

Pins facing the back, from left to right:
______|----|______
| O     O     O     O | (connect from 8120 to
-------------------
RX TX GND VCC+ (pin on Max232 board)

Open up a terminal program set to 9600 baud, fire up the router and login (admin / admin by default)...

Except for trying to identify the pins, this is a very easy project. There are only 4 wires to solder. I used a CD rom audio cable for the 4 pin connector on the 8120.

Telnet into the router. Type help. You can restore it from there. No need to reset it. If worse comes to worse you can unplug it. Leave it unplugged for a few mins.

NOTE: this is in response to the post by giannuzzelli
yes, but all of that assumes that you knew the ip or had a valid subnet. If the values aren't right, the router resets them to 0's and presto...no router intreface.

Veja abaixo:

8120 Firmware upgrade -- 8120 ~= RTA300
»

I used the RTA300 for NZ, so far so good.

I was having problems with my connection on the original firmware from Covad.

I'm located ~9000 ft from CO.

Line Attenuation was at 57db
Noise Margin 7 to 7.5

Modem trains at ~5000 m/bits with low CRC errors and Error Seconds. At night the numbers jump to a ridiculous amount, ie ~10 to 100 CRC errors per refresh of the DSL stat screen.

Covad reported no problems of course.

So fed up and not wanting them to drop my speed I dug around and found the RTA300 firmware, so far 4 hours of uptime and looks good. Real test will be tonight.

Now DSL port stats report:

Line Attenuation 47 dB
Noise Margin 7.5dB (steady)

Standard disclaimers etc.. I take no responsibility.. yada yada

Note: Does anyone know how to backup the original firmware? (too late for me).

Also mibs for the 8120? I'd like to track my CRC, Train speed, and time to have documented
